MORE THAN is a Survivor-Led Conference series hosted by the CFLS Speakers Bureau.

In 2022, MORE THAN Mother will explore Motherhood, the Criminal Justice System, & Access to Services

View Our Agenda!
Through this virtual platform, service providers, social workers, and advocates will explore the multiple identities surrounding motherhood, varying cultural expectations placed on what it means to be a "good" mother, and what a crisis can do to that identity.

In 2021, the MORE THAN Conference explored the complex intersection of domestic violence and the criminal justice system. This year, from June 7-9, 2022, we are delving into the challenges mothers face in accessing services and stabilizing their families amidst community violence, domestic abuse, incarceration, homelessness, mental illness, and more.

MORE THAN Mother is an ode to the power of women to navigate crises and become more than caregivers; they are leaders, innovators, healers, protectors, visionaries, and relentless fighters.

Hosted by the CFLS Speakers Bureau, the MORE THAN Conference Series is designed and led by survivors to capture the complexity of reentry women's experiences and to help advocates and service providers implement responsive solutions to their needs.

What does it mean to be

"Survivor-Led"?

The MORE THAN conference series is the first of its kind. We call it “survivor-led” because the women of the CFLS Speakers Bureau are paid consultants providing input to shape the topics, planning, and execution of this event. They are guiding the direction of this conference by telling us what is important to them and where they see the gaps in services; in doing so, they are enriching the information available to service providers and ensuring the content is relevant. They will lead the support groups and will also moderate some of the panels. Every session will include the voice of at least one person with lived experience as a panelist.

Planning and executing this conference presents various experiential learning opportunities for our Speakers Bureau members through the guidance of our experienced staff and consultants. Through the MORE THAN conference, survivors of domestic violence and the justice system are learning communications strategies, budgeting, planning, speaker engagement, and organization skills.
